The preliminary engineering phase of the Route 9 Complete Streets Project is wrapping up. The State Department of Transportation is holding a public meeting to show everyone what they came up with:
June 4, 2025
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Mercy Hall Rotunda, Mercy University
555 Broadway, Dobbs Ferry, NY
Map
Piccola
23 Cedar St, Dobbs Ferry, NY
8:15-ish pm to 9:30-ish pm
(Everyone welcome)
While the designs being shown on June 4th are the final ones for this phase, they are still just preliminary designs. If / when a segment moves to final design for construction, details can be tweaked. While some positive changes were made since the meetings in September, the engineering team's devotion to outdated design guidelines means there is plenty that needs improvement.
The project's goals are excellent, like providing "safe, reliable and comfortable corridor for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds," including "convenient crossings and consistent facilities to connect communities for all users." But here is what the State DOT is proposing for the 9 mile long project:
In case you can't make it to the June 4th meeting, wait until the day after the meeting, then...
a) If you want to see what the DOT is proposing, go to their website (https://www.dot.ny.gov/route9completestreets/reports) for renderings and engineering drawings. (We are saying to wait until after the meeting because that is when they will post the current drawings.)
b) Send an email to the DOT: route9completestreets@dot.ny.gov
Bike Tarrytown is hosting a group ride to the meeting (via the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail). They will also go to the after-party, then bike home. (Of course, you can go home at any point on your own via bike or train.)
Please RSVP to info@biketarrytown.org so they can communicate with you in case of a cancellation due to weather / trail conditions.
Meet at 5:00 pm on June 4
Washington St entrance of Patriots Park
Must have front and back lights if biking home with the group
Train: Take Metro North (Hudson Line) to the Ardsley-on-Hudson station. Upon getting out of the station, turn right, walk up the hill and enter the campus path via the gate on the right.
Bus: Ride the Bee-Line bus 1T or 1W to the Mercy University stop on Broadway. BUT, these bus lines shut down before the meeting is over.
